Meet an Amazing #Denville Dad. Brad Resnick, as his wife Arielle explains what makes him such a wonderful Dad, husband and Photographer!
How many children does he have and what are their age(s)?
Brad has two daughters. Matilda Bea, who just turned five, and Arlo Jane, who just turned one.
Where is he from originally and how long has he lived in Morris County?
Brad is from Bayonne, NJ. His family has owned Resnick’s Tool and Party Rental there since 1912! The business was started by his Great Grandfather, and is currently owned by Brad’s Dad. His Grandfather lived in the apartment above the store for 98 of his 99 years. We moved to Denville in November of 2019.
Favorite things to do with his children around town?
We moved to Denville right before the world shut down, but some of Brad’s favorite spots to go with the kids are Denville Dairy (big ice cream enthusiast), the playground at Gardner Field, and Baby Beach in Indian Lake.
What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about him?
Before he started his photography business, he was a stage manager for several off-Broadway productions with some awesome B-list celebrities. Through his theatrical connections, he has been the resident photographer for the theatrical education departments at both George Street Playhouse and McCarter Theatre for the past six years.
He also taught himself to play the ukulele and guitar during quarantine!
Any special moments, or events he has helped you or someone through?
As a photographer, he gets to capture the most special moments in people’s lives. He gets to be front and center as couples pledge their love for each other, families welcome new members, and children express their creativity. His grandfather was also an amateur photographer, so he has family photos as far back as the 1930’s. It warms my heart to know that future generations will get to see exactly who our family was throughout the many stages of our lives.
I am fortunate that he gets to cement my memories on film and on our walls so that our chronological visual history will be passed down for generations. When our first daughter was born, Brad was armed with two digital cameras, a film camera, and a medium format camera. Imagine how disappointed he was when we had to transition to an unexpected c-section, and our daughter’s entrance into the world was captured on a cell phone camera!
Is he involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!
Brad is the owner and founder of Brad Resnick Photography. He specializes in weddings, theatrical events, and family photography, and is currently working his way into more commercial branding projects. Brad has a BFA in photography from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, but for 10 years prior to starting his photography business, he worked in regional and off-Broadway theatre. He found his way back to his roots, and started his business in 2014.
How has this community been instrumental in getting him to where you are now?
In our last home, we never felt a true sense of community. The minute we moved to Denville, even though quarantine happened shortly after, we immediately felt like we part of a family. Brad has been able to connect with multiple businesses downtown through Downtown Denville and Two Girls Media. As things open up again, he is hoping to connect to families in town to help them lovingly capture their memories and get their memories on display in their homes, and not just on their phones and laptops.
Any funny, crazy, exciting, Dad moments to share?
I attend a professional conference every year, and when our daughter was 9 months old, we brought our older daughter to San Antonio with us. Not only did Brad hold it down solo with a 9 month old in an unfamiliar city, but he dutifully brought her to the conference center every 4 hours so I could nurse her in between meetings.
In our family, Halloween is our favorite holiday. Being the artsy creative types that we both are, we have thoroughly enjoyed curating amazing movie-themed family Halloween costumes over the last 4 years. So far, we have done The Sandlot, Back to the Future, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and the Addams Family. Since moving to Denville to a house with a perfect yard for decorating, Brad has also made it his mission to create epic Halloween scenes each year.
Any future endeavors to look forward to?
Brad is looking forward to meeting more families and business owners in town. His approach to capturing others’ memories is similar to the way he photographs his own children and loved ones. He truly seeks to build relationships with clients, find out what makes them tick, and what is special to them and for them, so he can translate that in a photograph.
